The right hand side of the figure presents the pacemaker hierarchy of the heart. All structures listed are capable of spontaneous depolarization (automaticity), and thus acting as a pacemaker. The rate of spontaneous depolarization is highest in the sinoatrial node, which is why it acts as the heart’s pacemaker under normal circumstances.
