Urticaria Activity Score (UAS)
Urticaria Activity Score (UAS)
Wheals (hives) in the last 24 hours
Pruritus (itch) severity in the last 24 hours
Result0 points (single-day UAS)
Daily UAS of 0 (range 0-6). The standard protocol sums self-reported daily scores over 7 consecutive days to give the UAS7 (range 0-42), used to track chronic urticaria activity and treatment response.
- Daily UAS (wheals + pruritus)
- 0 / 6
When to use
- Daily patient-reported symptom diary in chronic spontaneous (or chronic inducible) urticaria, summed over 7 days as the UAS7 to grade disease activity and monitor treatment response.
Formula
Daily UAS = wheal score (0-3) + pruritus score (0-3), range 0-6 per day. UAS7 = sum of daily UAS over 7 consecutive days, range 0-42.
Pearls and pitfalls
- Should be completed by the patient once daily (e.g., each evening), not retrospectively estimated by the clinician.
- UAS7 is the standard outcome measure in chronic urticaria trials and guideline-based severity/control assessment.
- The single-day severity band shown here (low/moderate/high) is an informal convenience for a single day's score; the validated grading in guidelines applies to the 7-day UAS7 total, not the daily 0-6 score.
