Formula
Estimated 24-h protein (g/day per 1.73 m2) = urine protein (mg/dL) / urine creatinine (mg/dL). <0.2 normal, >=3.5 nephrotic range.
Pearls and pitfalls
- Most reliable on a first-morning or random daytime sample near steady state.
- Extremes of muscle mass alter creatinine excretion and bias the estimate.
