TASH Score (Trauma Associated Severe Hemorrhage)
Predicts probability of mass transfusion after severe trauma.
TASH Score (Trauma Associated Severe Hemorrhage)
Hemoglobin
Base excess
Systolic BP
Heart rate >120 /min
Positive FAST (intra-abdominal fluid)
Clinically unstable pelvic fracture
Open or dislocated femur fracture
Sex
Result0 points
Estimated probability of mass transfusion about 1 %.
- Mass transfusion probability
- 1 %
When to use
- Early identification of trauma patients likely to need massive transfusion, prompting activation of a massive transfusion protocol.
Formula
Weighted sum of hemoglobin, base excess, SBP, HR >120 (2), positive FAST (3), unstable pelvic fracture (6), open/dislocated femur (3), male sex (1). Probability of mass transfusion = 1 / (1 + e^(4.9 - 0.3 x TASH)).
Pearls and pitfalls
- A TASH of ~16 corresponds to roughly a 50% probability of mass transfusion.
