When to use
- Deciding on admission level (ward vs ICU) and monitoring intensity after blunt chest wall trauma with rib fractures.
Formula
1 point per 10 years of age (from age 10) + 3 points per rib fracture + 5 (chronic lung disease) + 4 (pre-injury anticoagulant) + SpO2 band on room air (95-100%=0, 90-94%=2, 85-89%=4, 80-84%=6, 75-79%=8, ≤74%=10). Cut-offs: ≥11 risk of complications/admission, ≥26 consider ICU.
