When to use

  • Hyponatraemia in the presence of hyperglycaemia, typically diabetic ketoacidosis or a hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state.

Formula

Corrected Na = measured Na + 1.6 × [(glucose mg/dL − 100) / 100] (Katz). Hillier uses a factor of 2.4, which fits better at glucose >400 mg/dL.
