When to use
- Benchmarking illness severity and predicting hospital mortality in adult ICU patients using the worst values from the first 24 hours.
Formula
Sum of 15 weighted items (age, HR, SBP, temperature, PaO2/FiO2 if ventilated, urine output, urea, WBC, potassium, sodium, bicarbonate, bilirubin, GCS, chronic disease, admission type). logit = -7.7631 + 0.0737 x score + 0.9971 x ln(score+1); mortality = e^logit / (1 + e^logit).
Pearls and pitfalls
- Use the single worst physiologic value from the first 24 hours in the ICU.
- PaO2/FiO2 is scored only for patients on mechanical ventilation or CPAP.
