Repeated regurgitation and rechewing or expulsion of food that begins soon after a meal
Does not occur during sleep
Does not respond to standard treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux
Not preceded by retching
No evidence of an inflammatory, anatomic, metabolic, or neoplastic process explaining the regurgitation
Criteria fulfilled for at least 2 months prior to diagnosis

All 6 features (post-meal onset, not during sleep, unresponsive to reflux therapy, no preceding retching, no organic cause, ≥2 months) must be present.
When to use
- Diagnosing rumination syndrome in a child with repetitive post-prandial regurgitation resistant to anti-reflux therapy.
Formula
Repeated regurgitation/rechewing/expulsion of food beginning soon after meals, not during sleep, unresponsive to standard GERD treatment, without preceding retching or an underlying organic cause, for ≥2 months.
