When to use

  • Diagnosing functional dyspepsia in a child with chronic upper abdominal symptoms and a normal work-up.

Formula

≥1 of: postprandial fullness, early satiation, epigastric pain/burning not related to defecation — ≥4 days/month for ≥2 months, unexplained by another condition.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Postprandial distress syndrome (fullness/satiation) and epigastric pain syndrome may overlap in the same child.
