Criteria fulfilled for the last 3 months, with symptom onset at least 6 months before diagnosis

When to use
- Diagnosing CAPS in a patient with chronic abdominal pain once structural, motility, and other functional GI disorders have been excluded.
Formula
All required: continuous/nearly continuous abdominal pain; little or no relationship to physiological events; pain limits daily functioning; pain is not feigned; pain is not explained by another disorder; symptoms for the last 3 months with onset >=6 months prior.
Pearls and pitfalls
- CAPS is typically associated with psychosocial comorbidity, but there is no specific psychological profile required for diagnosis.
