When to use

  • Refining 10-year cardiovascular risk estimation in women ≥45 years, particularly when hsCRP or family history could reclassify risk.

Formula

10-yr risk % = [1 − 0.98634^exp(B − 22.325)] × 100, where B = 0.0799×age + 3.137×ln(SBP) + 0.180×ln(hsCRP) + 1.382×ln(total cholesterol) − 1.172×ln(HDL-C) + 0.134×HbA1c (if diabetic) + 0.818 (if smoker) + 0.438 (if parental MI <60).

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Derived and validated specifically in women; a separate Reynolds equation exists for men with different coefficients.
