Revised Trauma Score (RTS)

Physiologic trauma severity score predicting survival.

Revised Trauma Score (RTS)
Glasgow Coma Scale
Systolic blood pressure (mmHg)
Respiratory rate (/min)
Result7.84

Higher values indicate better predicted survival (maximum 7.84). Lower scores warrant trauma-centre care.

When to use

  • Physiologic triage and outcome prediction in trauma patients.

Formula

RTS = 0.9368 x GCS(coded) + 0.7326 x SBP(coded) + 0.2908 x RR(coded), each coded 0-4. Range 0-7.84.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • The weighted RTS is for outcome prediction; the unweighted coded sum (T-RTS) is used for field triage.
