When to use

  • Bedside assessment and reassessment of children with an asthma or wheeze exacerbation to guide treatment escalation.

Formula

Respiratory Score = respiratory rate (0-3, age-banded) + retractions (0-3) + dyspnea (0-3) + wheezing (0-3). Range 0-12. Low risk 0-4, moderate 5-8, high risk 9-12.
