When to use

Formula

C = circumferential extent above the gastroesophageal junction (cm); M = maximum extent, including tongues, above the gastroesophageal junction (cm). M ≥ C by definition.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Inter-observer reliability is good for segments ≥1 cm but poorer for very short segments.
