When to use

  • Prognosis in emergency-department patients with active cancer and acute pulmonary embolism.

Formula

L = 3.718 + 1.55171(DNR) + 0.79961(resp distress) + 0.73433(limb swelling) + 1.47345(altered mental status) + 1.02789(HR>100) + 0.04422(RR) - 0.063(SpO2%) - 0.01161(weight in lbs). Mortality % = 100 / (1 + e^-L).

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Outperformed the generic PESI score for 30-day mortality in cancer patients with PE.
