When to use

  • Adjunct for prognostic counselling and patient selection before endovascular therapy for anterior-circulation large-vessel occlusion stroke.

Formula

PRE score = age (years) + 2 x baseline NIHSS - 10 x ASPECTS.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Derived at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and externally validated in the Trevo2 cohort.
  • Outperformed several other pre-treatment prognostic tools (THRIVE, SPAN-100) for predicting good functional outcome in the derivation study.
