Pediatric Appendicitis Score (PAS)

Estimates likelihood of appendicitis in children with abdominal pain.

Pediatric Appendicitis Score (PAS)
Cough / percussion / hopping tenderness in RLQ
Tenderness in the right lower quadrant
Migration of pain to RLQ
Anorexia
Nausea or vomiting
Fever ≥ 38 °C
Leukocytosis (WBC ≥ 10 000/µL)
Neutrophilia (ANC > 7500 / PMN > 75%)
Result0 points

low likelihood — appendicitis unlikely.

When to use

  • Risk-stratifying children (roughly 4–15 years) with suspected appendicitis.

Formula

Two points each for RLQ tenderness and cough/percussion/hopping tenderness; one point each for pain migration, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, fever ≥ 38 °C, leukocytosis, and neutrophilia. Range 0–10.
