When to use
- Grading lung-injury severity and screening for severe ARDS (e.g. ECMO consideration).
Formula
Average of four components (each 0-4): CXR quadrants, PaO2/FiO2, PEEP, compliance. Score = total/4. 0 = none, 0.1-2.5 = mild-moderate, >2.5 = severe.
Pearls and pitfalls
- A Murray score >3 is one criterion used when evaluating patients for ECMO.
