When to use

  • Bedside classification of heart failure severity in acute myocardial infarction; a component of several risk scores including TIMI and GRACE.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Mortality figures come from the original 1967 cohort and are substantially lower in the era of reperfusion, but the relative gradient across classes persists.
