When to use
- Estimating survival probability before or during rewarming with extracorporeal life support for accidental hypothermic cardiac arrest.
- Supplementing a serum potassium-only triage approach with additional admission variables.
Formula
Logit = 2.44 − 1.55×male − 1.95×asphyxia-related mechanism − 0.0191×age − 2.07×log2(potassium in mmol/L) − 0.573×log2(CPR duration in minutes) + 0.937×core temperature (°C) − 0.0247×core temperature². Predicted survival probability = e^logit / (1 + e^logit).
Pearls and pitfalls
- Outperformed triage based on serum potassium alone in the derivation cohort (AUC 0.90 vs 0.77).
- Developed from patients who already underwent ECLS rewarming; use cautiously as the sole determinant of candidacy.
