When to use
- Estimating operative mortality risk to inform cardiac surgery decision-making and consent.
Formula
Logistic model: mortality = e^y / (1 + e^y), y = -5.324537 + 0.0285181*(age term) + sum of variable coefficients (age term = 1 if age<=60, then +1 per year).
Pearls and pitfalls
- Replaced the older logistic EuroSCORE, which markedly overpredicted risk.
- Age is coded as 1 up to 60 years, incrementing by 1 for each year beyond 60.
