When to use
- Screening adults for problematic drug use (excluding alcohol and tobacco) over the preceding 12 months.
Formula
Sum of 10 yes/no items, 1 point each; item 3 is reverse-scored (No = 1 point). Range 0-10.
Pearls and pitfalls
- Excludes alcohol and tobacco use, which are not scored by this instrument.
- A brief self-report screen; a positive score should prompt a more detailed clinical assessment, not a diagnosis.
