When to use
- Estimating blood volume for transfusion, apheresis or exchange calculations in adults.
Formula
Nadler: male TBV(L) = 0.3669×h³ + 0.03219×wt + 0.6041; female = 0.3561×h³ + 0.03308×wt + 0.1833 (h in metres, wt in kg).
Pearls and pitfalls
- Derived in adults; use weight-based estimates (e.g. 70–80 mL/kg) for neonates and children.
