When to use
- Estimating ischemic stroke risk in atrial fibrillation to inform anticoagulation decisions.
Formula
Age/prior-stroke points (no prior stroke: <65=0, 65-74=3, 75-84=5, >=85=6; with prior stroke: <65=8, 65-74=7, 75-84=7, >=85=9) plus 1 point each for female sex, diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, proteinuria, and eGFR<45/ESRD. Score 0-5 = low risk, 6 = intermediate, 7-15 = high risk.
