When to use

  • Rapid, parsimonious preoperative mortality estimation for cardiac surgery, including emergencies.

Formula

ACEF II = age / EF(%) + 2 (if creatinine >2 mg/dL) + 3 (if emergency) + 0.2 x (36 - hematocrit%) when hematocrit <36%.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • ACEF II extends the original ACEF score by adding emergency status and preoperative anemia.
