When to use

  • Assessing neutropenia and infection risk, e.g. in chemotherapy patients or suspected febrile neutropenia.

Formula

ANC (cells/uL) = WBC (x10^3/uL) x (segmented % + band %) x 10.

Pearls and pitfalls

  • Febrile neutropenia is defined by an ANC <500/uL (or expected to fall below 500) with fever.
